Wedding Traditions – Ideas for something blue

You know the saying – something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue – a wedding tradition for the bride, which is still used in our modern day weddings. The first 3 tasks can be done relatively easy in so many ways, but when the colour blue isn’t part of your wedding theme, how can you follow the tradition to ensure your wedded life is full of luck?

  • A blue handkerchief to wipe away your tears – it can be discretely hidden but still come in handy when you can’t hold those tears of joy back.
  • Blue shoes – there are some girls that LOVE blue, but couldn’t get it past the wedding theme team. But who said they can’t hide blue shoes underneath their dress? A perfect way to compromise on what you want AND finish off the wedding tradition.
  • Blue shoes too much? You can get I DO stickers in blue glitter to hide on the soles of your shoes!
  • Speaking of hiding things with wedding dresses – what about embroidering your names and wedding date into the inner lining of your wedding dress – sentimental and subtle.
  • Wear blue stones in your wedding jewellery, or for something smaller, have your beautician add a little blue jewel to the nail on your ring finger.
  • Want a sexier twist? Why not sneak some blue lingerie under your wedding gown?
  • Many bridal garters will have a blue ribbon in their design, or you can go with an entirely blue garter.
  • Have your florist tie a blue ribbon amongst your bridal bouquet.
  • What about blue ink on your menus – something so simple!
  • For something a little different, why not add blue eye shadow to your wedding day make up, or even ask your make up artist to dust your skin very lightly with blue body glitter.
  • Noone said you couldn’t have blue toenails!

There are many ways that you can add something blue to your wedding day in keeping with tradition, both subtle and with a little bit more flare. How will you add something blue to your wedding day?

(PS. Did you know the rhyme actually ends with ‘and a sixpence in your shoe’ – I’m not entirely sure they’re still legal tender!)
