That wedding dress shopping wow moment does it truly exist? Short answer yes, long answer, yes but….
I (Beej) spend nearly every Saturday morning with my cuppa and toast, watching shows like ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ with tears springing in my eyes as women see themselves transform into brides in the mirror in front of them. Some brides don’t even have to be ‘done up’ to have that moment. Some need the full earrings, veil and a fake bunch of flowers in their hands before they feel it. Others need to try on a few more and think about it overnight. It all really comes down to their own style of decision making – it’s like the different between the person who does all of their homework well ahead of time for any decision, to those that make ‘flying by the seat of their pants’ choices and coast the whole time.
From my (non-expert) opinion, I’d say that something like 20% of ladies on their wedding shopping adventures wouldn’t have THAT moment that they’ve read about. This could make them second-guess their choices, make their shopping experience stressful and make them wonder if they will ever find the perfect dress.
Then, their (typically) more analytical shopping adventure narrows down what they don’t like in a dress until they come to a point where they find a single dress that ticks the boxes, makes them feel beautiful, and captures the attention of everyone else in the room. It is their understated wow moment, and the dress is bought.
Don’t worry if you don’t cry when you pick your dress. Don’t worry if you don’t get the gush of butterflies when they put on your veil. And don’t worry if when you look in the mirror, you don’t want to jump up and down screaming ‘THIS IS MY DRESS!’ As long as you feel comfortable, beautiful, and can picture yourself walking down the aisle with hubby-to-be smiling back at your own smiling face, then that is your dress (and that aisle moment is the one you truly want anyway!).
