After all the fun I had with Kaitlin and Sam at their engagement photo shoot, I had high expectations for their wedding day. “I’m looking forward to seeing all of our friends and family enjoying the day as much as we are,” Kaitlin had said at the time, “oh and wearing my pretty dress!”
And pretty it was! In fact, it was gorgeous and Kaitlin glowed in her gown – but I’m getting ahead of myself! I started the day with the bridal party getting ready. There were so many of them – 7 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, 3 page boys and of course the beautiful bride – that they had to commandeer two different apartments to get ready in! Both the groomsmen and bridesmaid parties were made up of siblings, best friends, nieces and cousins and they were all a lot of fun throughout the day!
Such a big bridal party didn’t make a difference to the morning wedding routine though. In fact, they were so organised, super doper organised, and all the hair and make up was done on time which not only makes my job easier in photographing them once they are ready, bit gives the bride and her maids some time to relax and enjoy the building excitement of this momentous day. Brilliant! Plus, a bigger bridal party meant more laughs, hands on deck, and hearts to burst with love and adoration when Kaitlin got into her dress.
Kaitlin was so calm and happy on her wedding day, like the perfect bride, and I just love her and her personality! Sam, as an awesome groom, had all the guys under control and did what he could to include everyone. He is a big family guy and it was super lovely to see. As a really special part of their day, Sam was wearing cufflinks with pictures on them, remembering two of his mates that had passed away. It was a touching tribute and a way to have them still very close to him on his important day.
Added to the personal cufflinks was another special tribute on Sam and Kaitlin’s wedding day. During the ceremony the bridal party let go of balloons, to symbolise those that had passed. Kaitlin’s biological father had passed when she was a young child but to keep him with her on this special day, Kaitlin used his car to take her to the outdoor ceremony, and had a photo of her father in a frame taking pride of place at the wedding. Kaitlin was also wearing the engagement ring her father had given her mother and the wedding band from her departed Grandmother. It was so very touching, and didn’t leave a dry eye in the house when all of these tributes were revealed.
Kaitlin and Sam described their wedding vibe as ‘fun, relaxed, happy and loud!’ Part of the fun was their first dance ‘dance classes have been amazing!’ They whirled and twirled on the dance floor in front of their guests, smiles wide! A shared kiss as Sam dipped his new wife sent the crowd into cheers.
I can’t speak highly enough for how cruisy, relaxed and easy going Kaitlin and Sam were. A huge shout out to Karen and Marie, the mothers of the bride and groom, for all of their help, support and love. Another big thank you to Karena at the Port Lincoln Hotel for looking after us and being super organised and on top of everything – as every good wedding coordinator should be! Always a pleasure to work with her and her team!
Kaitlin and Sam, thank you for choosing me to share your wonderful wedding day and allowing me the opportunity to capture it in photographs for you to reflect on for eternity. You spent so much time thinking of everyone, honouring loved ones and ensuring there was a great time to be had, that I hope you enjoy looking back at these photos and remembering each of those special moments. xx
