Have you heard of pre wedding photos? No, it isn’t about the bride and groom meeting for photos right before their ceremony –that’s ‘first look photos’ (something else I enjoy!). In some cultures it is traditional practice to have pre wedding photos of the bride and groom in their full wedding attire, prior to the actual wedding day. Typically an Asian wedding tradition, the pre wedding photo shoot allows the couple to create beautiful wedding photographs that they can display at their wedding ceremony and reception.
I love the idea, as it means we can play with so many more locations, ideas and lighting, as we aren’t on a strict schedule to get from one location to the next between ceremony and reception. So when I was asked to do a pre wedding photo shoot with this beautiful couple, I jumped at the chance.
We spent our afternoon and evening in McLaren Vale, where Amilia and Zhi had hired a cottage for the weekend. The stunning Adelaide Hills location meant we were able to get so many different beautiful shots for their pre wedding photos, amongst the vineyards, using the winery facilities, one the beach and of course with the use of their lovely McLaren Vale cottage – it was fun to play with sparklers for some gorgeous sunset wedding photos.
With no timeline we were really able to have fun with it all – as you can see by the superman photos! We also were able to get some more casual photos like an engagement shoot would be typically set up and so they really were getting more bang for their buck with their pre wedding photos – and I got a whole lot more out of the experience too.
I’m so pleased that I was able to partake in this Asian wedding tradition of pre wedding photos – it is always humbling to have a new photography experience, and I love Asian wedding photography! I only hope to be take part in more Asian wedding photography traditions in the future!
Amilia and Zhi, we wish you a super wonderful wedding day and many more happy years to come together.
