First look photos – Would you want to see your partner before the wedding aisle?
It’s an increasing trend in weddings – the first look photo – where a bride and groom meet with each other before the wedding ceremony to have a few emotional moments to themselves. It is undoubtedly a beautiful moment in time, allowing both husband and wife-to-be a second to really take in what they are about to embark on, how beautiful or handsome they both look, and a quick kiss to calm the nerves before the trying-not-to-trip-or-cry-walk down the aisle.
A moment like this caught in wedding photography is priceless, the way faces and eyes light up at the sight of each other, when a solitary kiss is shared and a few tears are wiped away (with time to reapply makeup before the ceremony). First look photos can really capture raw emotion; emotion that instead of being held back in front of a crowd is free to be shown in the company of the one you love most.
Having two photographers allows you to capture both of your expressions…
The first look moment is also likely to calm the couple before the walk down the aisle – after all, the number one person to make you feel better when you’re a little strung out is likely to be the person you’re going to marry!
First look photos are also a great way to get wedding photos together before the ceremony starts – particularly if it is a late ceremony. Your outfits are still pristine, you haven’t smeared your lipstick on his lips, and your hair is at its bounciest or smoothest! This also leaves more time for relaxation between the ceremony and reception later on.
There are other takes on this ‘first look’ wedding photos trend, where there isn’t a ‘look’ at all. Instead, the couple stand either side of a curtain or a wall, unable to see each other, but still able to speak to each other and even hold each other’s hand in familiar comfort. This is a lovely way to exchange wedding gifts so that you can actually hear the reaction of your partner, or perhaps share a prayer together before you embark on this journey.
So whether to choose to stick with tradition at meet at the end of the aisle, or take on this new ‘first look wedding photography’ twist, you will no doubt get that special sparkle in your eye when you first see the love of your life on your wedding day.
What will you decide to do?
