Skye and Josh hit your radar when they had an engagement shoot with us on the beach, and I couldn’t wait to get to be a part of their wedding celebrations. On the morning of the wedding, Josh went for a run, not because he was nervous but because he is serious about his footy training and couldn’t have a day off. Skye was so relaxed and chilled, it was her bridesmaids that were a flutter! They seemed to be so nervous, and their emotions only sky rocketed further when Skye handed them a hand written note each. Tissues needed… Skye was so calm and level headed all day, and even the make up and hair was running on time (which makes my job soooo much easier) so really, it was a perfect start to their wedding day!
There are always funny photos of the guys getting ready on the wedding day, and they are all completely natural. Can you imagine the blokes trying to tie a Windsor knot, failing miserably, and enlisting the help of youtube? Hilarious. Along came dad and he was the hero of the moment! Outfits saved! There was a lovely moment on the wedding morning when Josh was presented with a gift from Skye. It was a very sentimental wedding gift to her groom – his grandparents mean a lot to him and so she had organised a locket with their photo for him. It was very touching.
I was then off back to the girls, and when we arrived it wasn’t long before Josh and Skye’s daughter, Lani, made her appearance after her morning nap. Well didn’t she just steal the show! When everyone was ready and Lani had finished showing off and playing with mums wedding shoes as the wedding dress hung on a personalised wooden hanger above, we had a chance for first look photos with Skye’s Dad – Spog – and the tears were flowing again! It gives me happy goosebumps just looking at those photos.
With her all white bouquet, in a strapless dress with a beaded bodice and flowing skirt, and after a kiss from her daughter who looked as much like a princess as a flowergirl, it was time for Skye to marry the man of her dreams. Skye was crying as she walked down the aisle hand in hand with her very proud dad, and I will admit my eyes were welling up behind the camera. It was a perfect ceremony on the beach which honoured loved ones who couldn’t be there and celebrated the lifetime of love to come.
The bridal party jumped into the mini bus, myself and Marie were in the 4WD and we headed off for bridal party photos. The sun was beating down and there were only 2 clouds in the sky, which was a brilliant blue. We had wedding photos in the scrub, on the beach and in the sandhills, and for Skye and Josh, there was no tearing their eyes off of on and other. They make great subjects for wedding photography full of smiles, love and adoration.
Skye and Josh had designed a very elegant themed wedding reception, with a ceiling full of fairy lights, delicate hand written love hearts for the name cards, and a super cool lolly buffet like a Ferris wheel. The gigantic smiles on the faces of Josh and Skye stayed for their first dance when Josh surprised Skye with their first dance song, and it wasn’t long before Lani joined them on the dance floor for a twirl and a spin. We snuck outside for sunset photos on the beach where I went for a tumble, wrongly assuming I had reached the bottom of the bank near the jetty. Lesson learned – don’t step into the seaweed thinking you have reached the beach, because there is likely to be slippery rock underneath. Woops.
We went back to the reception after some photos on the beach, ready for the cake cutting and some more fun with the guests and dancing with Lani, but the real gem of the night were the speeches. Josh read a speech that would melt even the coldest heart, thanking Skye for everything she is, for their beautiful daughter Lani, and saying how it would make his Grandparents proud to see their wedding today, the man he is, and the family they have created – and he is so right. Congratulations Mr and Mrs and Little Miss Wittwer. xx
