When David proposed to Carli on Christmas day in 2013, it was an emotional moment for her that she was so happy to share. “We were having Christmas at our house for the first time, and my family were over from Penong. David’s sister and her family came in the morning for presents. We all sat in the lounge room and the last present I opened was the most gorgeous diamond ring, picked by David himself. I couldn’t stop crying or shaking. It was lovely that I could share the occasion with my family – it was a very happy day.”
The only day that could top it of course was their wedding day, again shared with their wonderful family and friends in Glenelg. As the girls were pampered in their suite at the Stamford Grand Hotel, the intricate details of the wedding dress were photographed, from the petite beaded belt to the sheer and lace sleeves and the lace applique pattern than crept down the skirt. In her wedding dress, Carli was stunning, like a true blushing bride. Her bridesmaids wore floor length dark grey dresses with lace tops, and they all looked to be having a lot of fun as they sipped champagne and laughed their way through the morning.
The wedding planning process had luckily been drama free – “everything seems to have fallen into place” for their elegant but relaxed wedding. “Hopefully it will have a bit of a country feel in a city beach setting. The formalities will be kept at a minimum – we want it to be a celebration of our love, with lots of drinking, eating and dancing!” The hint of country was a nod to Carli’s life on the Eyre Peninsula, but also where Carli and David shared their first kiss. “I had worked with David’s sister at MGA Insurance Brokers since 2005. David and I met at her wedding in January 2011. We shared our first kiss at the Woolshed later that night”. Of course the Woolshed is the place where all the best love stories begin in Adelaide, and the rest was history!
The first kiss at the Adelaide icon led them to their first kiss as husband and wife at another Adelaide icon – Partridge House – the Glenelg venue at which they held their wedding ceremony. Flowers matching the bridal bouquets in pinks, peaches and whites adorned the ceremony aisle hanging in glass jars. Carli exited the Chevrolet wedding car and walked down the red carpet through the garden ceremony, meeting her blown away groom at the other end. They couldn’t take their eyes off of each other as they shared their vows in front of their guests.
With the wedding photographed by Associate Photographers, Mary and Jacie, the gardens of Partridge House, beaches of Glenelg, and floor to ceiling windows in the Stamford Grand were perfect locations for Carli and David’s wedding photos. But there were even more fun photos being taken at the reception! A polaroid camera was there for guests to take their picture, stick it in the guest sign in book and leave their wishes for the bride and groom. The photos were great!
Fresh flowers along with candles and flower petals made up the table centrepieces, and personalised stubbie holders were the gift given to attending guests. There were even special pink ones for the bridesmaids and black ones for the groomsmen! A cute little memento for their involvement in Carli and David’s special day. “I love simple things, nothing too over the top or too fancy. I spent a lot of time on the internet getting ideas and being involved in several weddings I have been lucky enough to be able to draw from those experiences as well,” said Carli.
If you think you’re nervous about your first dance, maybe you need to do what Carli and David did. “We have been secretly taking dance lessons – not to do some crazy routine, but we wanted to at least look like we knew what we were doing on the dance floor. We both have 2 left feet!”
“David brings a lighter side to me – I can sometimes get a little “serious” about life and he always makes me laugh. We are the complete opposite of each other in so many ways but we both have the same values when it comes to family and friends, and all those things that are most important to both of us.”
“We love going for day trips up in the Adelaide Hills or down south. We love spending nights in the city at a hotel marking special occasions or just mini breaks from everyday life. We love going out for dinner, having BBQs and hanging out with friends.”
Such genuine, down to earth and lovely people deserve the very best that life can offer them and I hope this celebration of your wedding day is only the very start of the fun that will be your future as husband and wife. xx
